Buying a New Car? Don’t Forget the Insurance

Buying a new car is such an exciting experience. You’ve done all the research, you’ve finally found the perfect car and you are about to pull the trigger and start the purchasing process. But are you prepared? Did you bring all the information the dealership needs? No need to stress, here is a quick guide on what you should bring when buying a car.

  1. Your driver’s license. Now this might seem like an obvious one, but the dealership will need to confirm you are a registered driver. Your driver’s license will also provide the dealer with your address when filling out some of the paperwork.
  2. Proof of Insurance. This is a big one. The dealer will most likely require proof of insurance before letting you drive away in your new vehicle, and you should have it in your car at all times, but if you don’t have it, you can always call your agent or carrier to have them send you a copy. To make this more streamlined, be sure to bring your proof of insurance with you.
  3. Trade Documents. If you plan on trading in your current vehicle to get your new car, make sure you take your title, registration, and any loan/lease information.
  4. Pay stubs. You should bring a couple recent pay stubs with you to verify income.

Being prepared with these items should make your car buying experience more user-friendly and you will be on the road in your new vehicle in no-time.

But don’t forget…call your insurance agent to add your new ride to your policy. Sometimes the dealership will offer to call your agent for you, but this can be complicated since the agent might need to verify with you first. In order to avoid any complications, kindly decline the dealer and call your agent yourself.
